They’re our best friends, our family, our cuddle buddies, our lives, pets are a core foundation of many of our lives… (unless you have a strong philosophical opinion based on their taking away from their biological parents, and are predominantly used as a selfish love sponge for humans).
Interestingly, did you know that the names of a dog’s parents is dam for the “mother” and sire for the “father”? The dam and sire, to me, sounds like two minor characters from GoT who control a tiny fiefdom at the edge of The Known World.
Anyhow, our pets also need ecommerce, too. They also need food, shelter (outside of the house), toys, safety equipment… all the stuff that us humans want and need to live a nice life. Of course, cats and dogs can’t navigate their paws across a keyboard, so it’s up to their owners to browse the digital aisles and find the good stuff for their furry friends.
Like we’ve seen in a number of other categories such as beauty and cosmetics ecommerce and clothing ecommerce, there is one ecommerce platform that almost always comes out on top as the most popular. And that ecommerce platform is Salesforce Commerce Cloud.
Scaled for high-volume retailers, capable of complex solutions such as crazy marketing campaigns, A/B and multivariate testing, and central management for multiple sites in multiple languages, etc., Salesforce Commerce Cloud holds exactly the right tools for a large and serious ecommerce player.
And despite the relatively shorter list of major pet store retailers compared with other industries, we see that some of the big brands do indeed host their online shop on Salesforce Commerce Cloud.
Let’s take a look at a handful of them.
Not your ordinary pet store that sells standard pet food and dog houses. Bissell is actually primarily a vacuum cleaner company that is headquartered in Michigan in the Greater Grand Rapids area, which was established all the way back in 1876.
Bissell is also the top manufacturer of floor care products in North America when it comes to sales, capturing 20% of the market.
The 144-year-old company became no longer satisfied with knowing that they were responsible for dust-free and shiny floors; they had a soft spot for pets, and so decided to move into the pet-care industry. So they now manufacture and sell solutions designed for cleaning pet hair and pet stains, as well as dog baths and deep cleaning systems.
Not only that, but Bissell also has a pet foundation, in which for every purchase a percentage donation is made, as well as a blog that keeps its customers up to date with the latest developments and news within both the company and the industry.
The leader of animal products in Spain that sells everything from food and haircare to hygiene and accessories, Kiwoko has over 130 stores across the country.
You’ll be able to find more than 8,000 pet products in store and online, for pretty much any pet than you can imagine – whether it’s a dog, cat, fish, reptiles, birds, pet rodents (which I hear can also be referred to as pocket pets).
The leading pet company in North America, PetSmart has over 1,600 stores spread out across the US and Canada, and sells everything from pet products, pet services and even small pets.
PetSmart empowers its ecommerce store with Salesforce Commerce Cloud in which it takes advantage of digital innovation, and helps to boost conversion rates. And it all began when the pet company wanted to unify commerce to get a better portrait of their customers in order to provide them with better and richer experiences.
Another important reason why PetSmart chose Salesforce Commerce Cloud is that it needed a platform to handle the high volume and scalability of core dates and events like Prime Day, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday.
The name of this pet brand actually came from the most famous Darwin on earth, Charles Darwin, in which it tried to replicate the approach of being inspired by nature and informed by science.
Darwin’s Pets is headquartered in Seattle, and has been dishing up raw pet food for cats and dogs for one and a half decades.
It’s well designed SFCC site comes equipped with a blog section, testimonials, and frequently asked question section. And has now partnered with pet advocates and experts in order to boost their social media engagement when it comes to raising awareness of animal shelters.
We happen to know all the details around Darwin’s implementation of Salesforce Commerce Cloud because it was United Virtualities that carried it out. It actually came up in conversation on a previous blog article when we sat down with a bunch of our Salesforce Commerce Cloud devs, which you can read about here.
