Breaking tech news: Salesforce is set to acquire Mobify, the storefront for headless commerce that empowers businesses to provide premium online experiences. Faster. Stronger. And safer. The fee is expected to reach $60 million.
Mobify — founded in 2007 and whose headquarters resides in Vancouver — will bring fresh firepower of the latest web development tools to SF Commerce Cloud — headquartered just under 1,000 miles south in San Francisco.
Just six years after its founding, Mobify — which I can’t help but think is the name of a GTA-style video game in which you begin as a civilian and make your way through the underground scene, making your way and rising through the ranks to become the boss, but that’s just me! — boasted users such as Starbucks, Bosch, and Toyota, with a userbase of 90,000 spread across 200 countries.
Its more recent clients include luxury cosmetic brand Lancôme, sportswear brand Under Armour, and the 242-year-old British retailer Debenhams.
So what exactly is Salesforce getting from Mobify?
We’ve been living in a digital-first economy for over half a year. And so ecommerce has acted as a lifeline for almost all businesses. The modern storefront solution of Mobify brings enhancements for brands to customize online commerce experiences at faster speeds and more frequently. These enhancements spread across a brand’s social media presence are geared towards boosting conversion rates and driving revenue upwards.
Mobify also features technologies fixed for headless commerce and enables the design of customizable apps and sites on application programming interfaces (APIs). This type of tech separates the front-facing, customer interface from the engine room of the back-end operations.
Its web application technology also aids creating, building and maintaining mobile apps, that fits perfectly with the latest version of Salesforce Commerce Cloud, Storefront Reference Architecture (SFRA), which drives a mobile-first approach. Mobify’s functionalities are going to strengthen the customization of sites for both B2B Commerce and B2C Commerce — one way in which its functionalities will benefit SFCC is that its tech delivers greater range for front-end builds.
“Mobify will provide Salesforce Commerce Cloud with a modern storefront solution that will allow brands to customize their commerce experiences,” said Mobify CEO Igor Faletski. “Delivering a modern digital experience is more important than ever. The world has transitioned to a digital-first economy, and online has become the lifeline for many businesses.”
In the current environment in which we’re all living, it has become more important than ever for brands and retailers to put more focus on fresh approaches to selling their products across the whole ecommerce environment.
Salesforce keeps on heading skywards, having recorded strong growth of 21% in the second quarter. And so while the clouds are expanding the sun continues to shine brightly on the ecommerce platform.
