We’ve come a long way in a short span of time when it comes to digital content.
Gone are the days of treating text and images like second-class website considerations. Today they form the core of digital experiences and interact with one another.
In order to build better online journeys for digital shoppers and customers, brands and retailers have been putting more and more money into investing in capabilities including content management systems.
Among the leading content management systems designed to help brands and retailers succeed in a sea of competitors and constantly moving parts is the headless Contentful.
Contentful lets you update content on a website, mobile app, and other digital displays. It eliminates the need to create your own back-end in order to manage digital content and provides the tools to track and manage websites and apps.
So how much does it cost to actually get your hands on Contentful?
Like many digital platforms, Contentful has a pricing tier structure, so the cost depends on the level.
There are three levels to Contentful’s pricing structure: Community, Team, and Enterprise.
First of all, the Team tier pricing structure is offered on a monthly basis and can be canceled at any moment. Meanwhile, the Enterprise tier pricing structure is offered through a long-term contract.
Let’s look at each tier in a bit more detail.
Community: free
Ideal for individual developers that are working on personal projects, websites, hackathons, or more philanthropic adventures.
The Community tier offers an open platform with software development kits (SDKs), design systems, and the App Framework. You’re able to use your favorite tools and have access to language and framework agnostic, a decouple microservice architectures, and in general a fully-featured headless content management system with GraphQL.
Community also includes the free Community space.
The Community tier is free to use, with a single space for up to 5 years.
Team: $489 – $1,995 per month
Ideal for companies that are looking to provide their small content teams with scalable tools for building one or two projects.
You can try the Team tier for free and then it enables you to upgrade depending on the needs of the project. This tier is great for powering a modern stack website that doesn’t need a service level agreement (SLA). You get expanded authoring roles to improve workflows as well as tech support both through in-app messaging and email.
The Team tier begins at $489 per month and scales up to $1,995 per month depending on the company’s needs.
Enterprise: customized
Pricing for the Enterprise tier is tailored to the needs of a company and so doesn’t disclose its pricing structure for this tier. And so, the price grows with your needs – or scales down if requiring fewer features.
The tier provides a singular content hub for all content teams, customizable roles and tasks and access to Solution Architects and Customer Success Managers. In addition, Enterprise guarantees SLAs and options for multi-region infrastructure support.
It also comes with additional editorial apps, advanced governance features, and professional services.
What is Contentful’s Community space?
Community is designed to increase the time it takes for digital development by putting in the hands of its developer community the latest technologies like GraphQL.
The idea of the Community space is to provide developers the room to enhance their personal projects.
It includes technical support via email, chat, and messaging with solutions architect available only through paid plans.
The number of users
In terms of how many users can access the platform, that also depends on the tier. The Community tier offers 5 users while both the Teams tier and Enterprise tier offers 10 users. Additional users can be added for a price of $15 per user per month. For the Teams tier, there is a maximum of 25 total users. There is no limit for additional users on the Enterprise tier.
