Change is constant. And big changes have arrived at the top of the hierarchy of the headless content management system Contentful.
Contentful has recently strengthened its executive team with the addition of two senior execs from industry-leading software companies.
It is part of the company’s continued investment in its content platform, which follows in the footsteps of a fresh round of funding that scooped up $175 million, taking the valuation of the platform to $3 billion last year.
Being onboarded are Mairead O’Donovan, joining as the chief product officer from Atlassian, and Søren Abildgaard, joining as the executive vice president of engineering from Zendesk.
Mairead began her technology career in product management at Microsoft, where she launched products for Bing, Xbox and Microsoft Visual Studio. She went on to collect two decades of experience in product strategy and innovation as well as holding leadership roles Atlassian.
“I’m very excited to be joining Contentful during this period of growth and momentum,” said Mairead. “We have the opportunity to provide all digital builders – developers, designers and content creators – the tools that will enable them to create, build and deliver content in a modern and differentiated way. We have the opportunity to invent the next generation in this new era of composable content.”
Søren spearheaded the engineering team at Zendesk, leading the company in building its product portfolio that propelled the company in terms of customers and revenue. Now, in his new position at Contentful, Søren will work alongside Mairead as well as cofounder Paolo Negri to dive deeper into developing the technical space of the Contentful platform.
“Contentful has the potential to take the way content is orchestrated and delivered by digital builders to a new level,” added Søren. “As an engineer, it is important to me to be able to contribute to a platform that is redefining the way businesses build to win in this digital first era. I am very excited for the challenge and opportunity in front of us.”
With 540 new workers since 2020, Contentful is a platform on the move. Its total workforce now clocks in at 750 with key hubs in Berlin, Denver, and San Francisco.
Other areas of growth include Contentful’s App Marketplace (the home to third-party integrations and custom workflows), which registered a 150% increase of apps since early 2021.
Contentful now performs 1.8 billion API calls a day on average, catering to one-third of Fortune 500 companies as well as thousands of other brands and organizations.
