Fit Among the Furniture: Home Workouts and eCommerce

Dormant gyms and silent fitness centers scattered across the country. Workouts have been upended, an increase in stress-fueled snacking and a slightly wider waistline. And I’m not only talking about me. The pandemic and lockdowns have led to a national weight gain – the quarantine 15.

While the fitness industry is struggling with closed doors, as many attempt the transition to livestream ecommerce – such as individual or group video livestream workouts led by the fitness instructor – there has been an increase in fitness and workout equipment.

Fit Among the Furniture: Home Workouts and eCommerceThis is one explanation for the rise in home workouts; the other explanation – which is pretty much the same – is that people have started to do their own workouts, without a virtual instructor, and have been buying a bunch of weights, bars and kettlebells to keep fit among the furniture at home.

We reported in the height of summer the boom in exercise products – particularly dumbbells, weight plates, and kettlebells, as the living room became the gym room and fitness studio.

Home fitness equipment brands have been working to boost their ecommerce experiences to help customers to deck out their home gym space, to integrate equipment, and create an aesthetic design to optimize efficiency and motivation.

Some of these brands include Cybex International, a manufacturer of premium commercial fitness equipment, which uses Salesforce Commerce Cloud (or more specifically, SFCC’s B2B solution, Pardot) for its ecommerce solution.

Fit Among the Furniture: Home Workouts and eCommerceCybex uses its ecommerce platform to even share the latest data from its research institute, as well as its featured equipment split up into specific and easy to locate categories – treadmills, weights, etc.

Although the fundamentals of keeping fit have never changed, we have switched from big and bulky machines in the gym to learn and lightweight equipment – bodyweight exercises, resistance bands, dumbbells and kettlebells.

And when it comes to fitness brands, they’re also making a shift to becoming all-round lifestyle brands; no longer enough to sell equipment, fitness gear and clothing, but following the lead of major brands in other industries such as clothing by promoting a healthy, active lifestyle.
